General Information
Behavior Policy
I expect our classroom to be an enjoyable learning environment for your child and all other students. For this to happen, Oakland teachers ask all students to follow these rules.
Be respectful.
Be responsible.
Be safe.
The students who do not follow these rules will receive the following consequences.
1. Verbal reminder
2. Visual cue
3. Vicinity change
4. Vacate the classroom
Students are rewarded for behavior that meets or exceeds expectations in a variety of ways. Some rewards include prizes, free-choice time, and special classroom jobs.
Misbehavior and incomplete assignments will affect your child’s ability to join us for field trips, assemblies, recess, and special activities. Please review these policies with your child. I appreciate your continued support at home.
Homework Policy
Rather than sending home worksheet homework daily, we ask that students engage in English language arts, math, and spelling nightly. The assignment notebook page outlines activity suggestions. In addition to this schedule, your child may bring home assignments that he/she did not finish in class, but this is extremely rare. Please be aware that they are due the next day, unless otherwise noted. I send study guides home to help your child prepare for quizzes and tests. Homework, tests, and projects will be graded only one time. Class work may be corrected and handed in for re-grading. All student work is sent home on Fridays for weekend corrections, which are always due the first day of the next week. Spelling lists will come home every week and a test will be given over the words on Fridays. Please check and sign your child's assignment notebook nightly. This will be a great tool for us to keep in contact. Students earn Fun Friday time for completed work and signed assignment notebooks. Beginning strong study habits now by setting up an evening routine will make a huge difference.
Graded Papers
Graded papers will come home every Friday attached to my weekly classroom newsletter. Any class work below 80% (Progressing or Needs Improvement) that your child corrects over the weekend must be returned on Mondays (or the first day of the week) for re-grading. Keep in mind that I will only re-grade class work, and I will only re-grade it once. If you see "Parent Signature" on one of your child's papers, I would like you to sign the page and have your child return it on Monday. Thank you for reviewing your child's work with him/her each weekend.
Third Grade Expectations
The Third Grade Handbook (tan booklet) is part of your child's at-home school binder. You can view a digital copy of the information and resources here.
